Path of Remembrance

The new “Path of Remembrance” with a total length of 94 km runs through the region of the Büllingen (B), Bütgenbach (B), Weismes (B), Hellenthal and Monschau municipalities. 30 boards throughout the hiking route will remind the hiker of significant events and locations from the times of both world wars such as the Ardennes offensive, smuggling, the Siegfried Line or the attack on the train of Dwight D. Eisenhower in Bütgenbach. The splendid natural landscape with the wild narcissi in the spring, the typical hedgerow landscape, low bogs and idyllic streams make the hike an experience to be enjoyed all year round. All of the information boards and hiking maps are composed in 4 languages. Our tip: 13 km of the path and 7 of the information boards are in the town of Monschau area and with the assistance of the hiking map, a shortcut through Kalterherberg can be found and an interesting day trip can be individually designed. The hiking maps in German, English, French and Dutch translations can be obtained for 2.50 € per map in all tourist information points along the way.
